After many years, a new bridge is being built in Vilnius again, and its construction will connect A. Goštauto and Upės streets, which have been entrusted to UAB Tilsta. Naujasis pedčiųjų ir dviračių bridge. We are building this bridge by Vilniaus miesto savivaldybė order.
The last bridge built in Vilnius over the Neris was the King Mindaugas Bridge, which was also built by Tilsta. As, by the way, most other bridges, viaducts and tunnels in Vilnius (including the Geležinio Vilkas, Žirmūnai, Valakampiai bridges, etc.).
Tadas Daškevičius, Technical Director of Tilsta, points out that the new pedestrian and bicycle bridge also has one interesting uniqueness: it will be the first modern wooden bridge in Vilnius.
“It will be an arched bridge. The entire construction of the bridge – arches and overlay – will be made of wood. Only the foundations will be reinforced concrete, and the wooden structures will be connected by metal inserts. In shape, the building will be similar to the Mindaugas Bridge, so it will be a beautiful accent connecting both banks of the river. Despite the fact that the bridge structure is wooden, it will be strong and durable,” says T. Daškevičius.
Read more about the project and the temporary traffic changes during the construction of the bridge, which will be felt only by pedestrians and cyclists, on the portal LRT,lt/Tilsta.
