Reconstruction Begins on the Main Overpass Leading into Zarasai

We will soon begin the reconstruction of another overpass in poor condition – the main entrance to the town of Zarasai, located at kilometer 180 of the A6 national road Kaunas–Zarasai–Daugavpils.

The work will start in July and is planned to be completed by December 2026.

During reconstruction, the overpass will be closed. All traffic – including emergency and public transport – will be redirected via a temporary bypass, using a roundabout built on Turmanto Street.

Residents will be informed about the traffic changes in advance, and clear road signs will be installed to help everyone navigate safely.

Once the overpass is renewed, it will fully meet structural safety requirements – the foundations, supports, and deck will all be repaired. It will also become more comfortable for all road users.

Separate paths will be built for pedestrians and cyclists: pedestrians will use the right side of the overpass, and the left side will be shared by pedestrians and cyclists. The overpass will be lit to keep travel safe and convenient at all hours.

These traffic changes may require some patience from Zarasai’s residents and visitors, but we believe the reconstructed overpass will soon become a safe, convenient, and natural part of daily travel.
