At Klaipėda State Seaport, we are currently reconstructing the southern and northern breakwaters of the harbor gates
Every day we place stones of various sizes, the largest of which weighs as much as 33 tons. To make it easier to imagine – this is the weight of 22 cars or 5 adult African elephants.
The largest stones are particularly important in the construction of the breakwater and are placed at the back in order to protect the harbor from storm waves as much as possible.
The stones, divided by fractions, are brought to the port from Sweden. They reach Klaipėda in about a day and a half, depending on weather conditions.
The purpose of this project is not only to strengthen the existing structure of the breakwater, but also to increase its height in order to increase the resistance of the breakwater to protect the port from the impact of waves during storms. The upgrade will also widen the width of the port gates, making it easier for larger ships to enter in difficult weather conditions.
Despite the challenges posed by the waves and the complexity of logistics, we hope to complete the work by the end of November.
