Pasta Bridges 2025: When Engineering Begins with Spaghetti

Pasta isn’t just for eating – it can also be used to build bridges capable of withstanding tens of kilograms of weight. This is proven every year by the participants of the “Pasta Bridges” championship.

For the 12th time, school pupils and university students from across Lithuania gathered at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH) to compete in the “Pasta Bridges 2025” finals. This year, the goal was to break last year’s record – the bridge, built from pasta and glue, had to hold more than 299 kg. A total of 26 teams competed for the champion’s title, and for the fifth year in a row, the winners were students from Vievio Gymnasium, Elektrėnai Municipality – their bridge withstood an impressive 326 kilograms.

As in previous years, Tilsta and SRP projektas supported this initiative, encouraging the younger generation’s interest in engineering and bridge construction.

“Projects like ‘Pasta Bridges’ help young people understand the principles of structural mechanics in a hands-on way, foster technical thinking, and spark interest in engineering. If we want to raise the next generation of bridge designers and builders, we must start by encouraging curiosity and creativity,” said Eduardas Grinaveckas, CEO of UAB Tilsta.
